After you have completed two pieces, face the wrong sides so that they face each other and single crochet with two strands using the dark orchid through both pieces following along the purple areas. Next, switch to Aran when you get to the Aran section and continue making single crochets until you reach other side. Before you close it up, make sure to firmly stuff your pillow!

Short Leaves (Make 4 in Spring Green)

This is made in rows using two strands of the Spring Green and you will be working on both sides of the chain.

1st Row:

Ch 19, sc x 1 in 2nd ch from hook, sc x 5, hdc x 6, dc x 5, [dc x 8] x 1, now working the other side, dc x 5, hdc x 6, sc x 6, ch 1, turn. (42 stitches total)

2nd Row:

(slst x 1, sc x 1, hdc x 1, [dc x 3, ch 2, slst x 1] x 1) x 2, (slst x 1, sc x 1, hdc x 1, dc x 1, [dc x 3, ch 2, slst x 1] x 1) x 2, slst x 1, dc inc x 4, slst x 1, ([slst x 1, ch 2, dc x 3] x 1, dc x 1, hdc x 1, sc x 1, slst x 1) x 2, ([slst x 1, ch 2, dc x 3] x 1, hdc x 1, sc x 1, slst x 1) x 2, fasten off. (70 stitches total)

Once you have two sides finished, sc through both pieces using two strands of the Spring Green yarn around the outside and leave a long yarn tail to fasten the leaf to the top of the turnip. Repeat for the last two pieces. You should end up with two short leaves to attach to the top of your turnip.

Long Leaf (Make 2 in Spring Green)

This is made in rows using two strands of the Spring Green and you will be working on both sides of the chain.

1st Row:

Ch 24, sc x 1 in 2nd ch from hook, sc x 7, hdc x 8, dc x 6, [dc x 8] x 1, now working the other side, dc x 6, hdc x 8, sc x 8, ch 1, turn. (52 stitches total)

2nd Row:

(slst x 1, sc x 1, hdc x 1, dc x 1, [dc x 3, ch 2, slst x 1] x 1) x 2, (slst x 1, sc x 1, hdc x 1, dc x 1, tr x 1, [tr x 3, ch 3, slst x 1] x 1) x 2, slst x 1, dc inc x 6, slst x 1, ([slst x 1, ch 3, tr x 3] x 1, tr x 1, dc x 1, hdc x 1, sc x 1, slst x 1) x 2, ([slst x 1, ch 2, dc x 3] x 1, dc x 1, hdc x 1, sc x 1, slst x 1) x 2, fasten off. (82 stitches total)

Once you have two sides finished, sc through both pieces using two strands of the Spring Green yarn around the outside and leave a long yarn tail to fasten the leaf to the top of the turnip. The long leaf will go between the two shorter ones on the turnip.

As a garnish, I made a tassle in Aran and it added it to the bottom of my turnip. I used about six 8 inch long strands and knotted them together.

You have now completed the Biggest Turnip quest! Huzzah!
